We are expanding! Project Playground The Gambia is being established.
Project Playground’s vision is that all children and youth should have the opportunity to live full lives. The Gambia is one of the poorest countries in the world, and we aim to establish a centre in the country targeting socially vulnerable and excluded children and youth.

By running the following programmes we will dramatically improve the everyday lives of our beneficiaries and brighten their prospects for the future:
Education – Increasing knowledge levels and improving academic performances among beneficiaries
Recreational Activities – Increasing participation in regular high-quality recreational activities
Job Creation − Supporting and providing opportunities for youths to generate a sustainable income as entrepreneurs or employees

The Gambia
Forty-eight per cent of the population in The Gambia is living under the poverty line. Like many sub-Saharan African countries, The Gambia has a large population of young people, with 50 percent under the age of 20, as a result of high fertility rates and a low life expectancy of 63 years. Many young Gambians opt to emigrate illegally, taking the ”back way” to reach Europe despite the risks of this endeavour. In the process, many Gambians die or are injured at sea, in the Saharan desert, or in transit countries.
The Project Playground model emphasises holistic, individualised and long-term support, and is well suited to the Gambian context. The model empowers beneficiaries with tools to build healthy, dignified lives as contributing citizens. Project Playground The Gambia will offer daytime as well as after-school activities five days a week in a safe, inspiring and capacity-strengthening environment. While our primary target group is children and youth, we will also work closely with parents, guardians and other family members, since they have a significant impact on the lives of the children and youth.
